Colombia. The Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies, MinTIC, begins a national crusade to recall the good practices of community broadcasters and those of public interest.
Consigned in Resolution 415 of 2010, as principles and functions of radio, community stations must be oriented to meet communication needs in their municipality, facilitate the right to information and promote the participation of their inhabitants through their programming boards. Likewise, they must promote social development, peaceful coexistence, democratic values, the construction of citizenship and the strengthening of cultural and social identities.
For their part, public interest broadcasters must meet the communication needs of the State with citizens and communities in their geographical area of coverage. They are the channel for the integration of the Colombian people, and contribute to the generation of a better informed and educated society.
All the stations in the country are governed by rules that regulate them in order to guarantee a provision of the service in accordance with the defined principles and purposes of the radio. Therefore, from MinTIC, we monitor and inspect that the Sound Broadcasting service meets the criteria of quality and efficiency for the benefit of Colombians.
For this reason, the objective of MinTIC is to continue working to provide tools to broadcasters, opening opportunities to a medium that has accompanied entire generations of Colombians in their daily lives for decades and whose waves reach all strata and regions of the country.
Currently in the national territory there are 625 community stations in operation and 188 new ones in the feasibility phase. Likewise, there are 298 stations of public interest.
