Colombia. In the 59th version of the Cartagena International Film Festival (FICCI), the Minister of Information and Communications Technologies, Sylvia Constaín, met with the managers of the regional channels and with the members of the ANTV board, to whom she presented the route for the preservation and conservation of their contents.
At the meeting, Constaín explained that, for this year alone, the National Government will inject $29,524 million into Public Television, a figure significantly higher than the investments that had been made in the sector. For example, in the previous three years (2016 to 2018), the budget was $14.233 billion, almost 50% less than the resources allocated for 2019.
"The national audience has highlighted the quality of the audiovisual content produced in the country, particularly those that correspond to Public Television. From MinTIC we will continue to support it because we want this medium to be stronger, more attractive, disruptive and convergent. Through national and regional public channels we want to reach more Colombians, because the media are a tool to achieve equity and reduce the digital divide," said the minister.
He added that "we are taking an unprecedented leap, where our public television is recognized for the high quality and talent of national projects. This initiative emerges as a dynamic instrument in the processes of formation, recreation and the dissemination of values and cultural expressions through the generation of content that enhances our identity".
The purpose is to support public channels in their strengthening from the production of multiplatform content that contributes to the audiovisual heritage of the country. It will seek to captivate digital communities and offer high quality services, which are measurable across all audiences and the impact in the region.
Of the 95 India Catalina awards obtained by public television for 9 years, 50% correspond to 2017 and 2018, which means that the quality of its productions has impacted audiences and industry, which is why the Ministry will continue with its support and strengthening to maintain that good streak and overcome it. For this year's edition, national and regional public channels received 6 of these awards.
