Latin America. Sony will update the capabilities of its Venice cinematic camera system, incorporating High Frame Rate (HFR) recording, advanced remote control functionalities and support for extended Cooke/i3 and Zeiss metadata, within its latest firmware update.
After the recent release of venice camera firmware version 3.0 and the subsequent introduction of its Extension System (CBK-3610XS), developed in collaboration with James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment company and currently used for the filming of the Avatar sequel, this latest update will offer filmmakers greater freedom, flexibility and creative options.
The new optional high-frame rate license allows the Venice camera to record at speeds of up to 120 fps in 4K 2.39:1 format and 60 fps in 6K 3:2 format, as well as at speeds of up to 110 fps in 4K 17:9 format and 75 fps in 4K 4:3 with anamorphic lenses. The new frame rates are particularly useful for commercial, theatrical and film productions in 4K and 6K formats, as well as for 50/60p productions in 6K and VR (virtual reality) productions using a large viewing angle of 6K 3:2 in 60p.
All high frame rate function options support X-OCN recording including X-OCN XT* (implemented from Version Ver.3.0) and the high frame rate up to 60 fps option supports XAVC 4K and ProRes recording.

In addition, version 4.0 of the VENICE camera firmware will introduce:
Protocol 700 – A control protocol developed by Sony to connect the VENICE camera to a remote control unit (RM-B750 or RM-B170) and an RCP-1500 series remote control panel, giving filmmakers greater flexibility to make their visions a reality.
Support for Cooke's /i3 metadata technology, and ZEISS eXtended Data technology (based on Cooke /i technology) – Extended lens metadata can now be embedded directly into a RAW/X-OCN/XAVC file and HD-SDI output, without the need for additional metadata equipment.
