Latin America. Content providers such as Netflix and Amazon can compete with traditional television with content such as series and movies, but this is not the case with live television, which is still unique at the level of news, sports, realities, presentations and magazines.
This was stated in conversation with TVyVideo+Radio José Luis Reyes, director for Latin America of the company Live U, who said that in the process of change that the industry is experiencing, each channel must look for its way to stand out among the competition.
"Definitely the industry is in a process of change that has been going on for some time. The broadcast market has been processing this change with the atomization of customers at the advertiser level and the multiplication of competition, with which broadcast has been forced to introduce new technologies. One of the ones that is bearing the most fruit are the ones that help with the live broadcast," he added.
On the experience in Latin America in this regard, he pointed out that many television stations have been entering a new stage of live content in higher quality aimed at a specific audience and that has given them positive results. As an example, he gave the cases of small local channels that broadcast a large number of newscasts, in greater quantity than usual, with a lot of local and live content.
"LiveU is a tool that represents for them a leverage of these transmissions and has led to these channels acquiring units of the system in large quantities. The other aspect of broadcast is distribution. For a year Now, LiveU has been installing fixed distribution and contribution systems for television channels, being cheaper for them compared to traditional methods," he said.
This scenario made 2018 successful for LiveU, despite situations such as exchange rate or political problems affecting the region. In addition, in different ways almost all Latino governments are using LiveU, allowing an excellent result in sales, in segments such as security, police, special intervention operations, and even in stadiums, such as the Tribuna Segura program of the Argentine Federal Police that uses the system.
José Luis Reyes concluded that "for 2019 there are many business possibilities. The Pan American Games are coming, which Historically LiveU has been in charge of the transmission. Business in the largest economies in the region is growing and, without a doubt, one of the protagonists of this movement is Mexico, where more than 500 active units have been exceeded throughout the country. In the presidential inauguration on December 1, 2018, 250 active units operated."
