Peru. With the aim of increasing knowledge about Digital Terrestrial Television, DTT, and its benefits for viewers at the national level, the Vice Ministry of Communications of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, MTC, chose the Official Character and Motto.
This is Tedito, a peculiar character half tumi-half robot that was chosen after a close contest sponsored by the Embassy of Japan and by RPP, entities that donated the prizes for the first places in both categories.
For the contest they received 118 character design proposals and 371 proposals for the slogan, from 18 regions of Peru.
The jury was composed of the Deputy Minister of Communications, the Director of the General Directorate of Authorizations in Telecommunications, the Director of the Office of Institutional Image, the advertising specialist César Sáenz Patrón and the representative of the Embassy of Japan, Mr. Hajime Sakamoto.
In the slogan category, the winner was Percy Cordova Saavedra, a 23-year-old university student from Tarapoto (San Martín), with the proposal "Digital Terrestrial Television, because there is much more to see".
In the character category, the winner was Walter Martín Meza Rengifo, a 30-year-old graphic designer from Lima, with the Tedito proposal, who flies at high speeds bringing the digital signal to all the towns of Peru. Through its LED head, digital television channels are accessible to all Peruvians. It has details of zeros and ones on its headdress, as a clear reference to the binary transmission used in digital terrestrial technology.
