Mexico. Last Monday, May 22, the activity corresponding to the payment of consideration concluded within the last stage of the Public Tender to Concession 191 Frequencies in the Segment from 88 to 106 MHz FM and 66 Frequencies in the Segment from 535 to 1605 kHz AM.
As a result of this activity, payments were recorded for consideration in the amount of 783.6 million Mexican pesos, of which 677.5 million corresponds to 95 FM frequencies and 106.1 million to 27 AM frequencies; the registered payments correspond to 57 of the 67 winning participants, which represents that 85% of them paid at least one of the frequencies with the highest valid positions.
In terms of the corresponding bidding rules, the frequencies at which the payment of the consideration was not recorded may be assigned to participants who have expressed an interest in continuing in the process with the subsequent higher valid positions. In this sense, the Institute received demonstrations to continue in the process for 25 frequencies for which the corresponding payment was not registered.
Derived from the above, 31 frequencies in which a valid position was received in this process, may not be assigned at this time, but may be included in the next tender for radio frequencies (Tender No. IFT-8), whose public opinion process is expected to begin in December this year.
It should be noted that the final figures of this bidding process will be obtained once all the activities in terms of the bases are concluded, and implies that the number of frequencies assigned may increase, as well as the total amount of the consideration paid.
It is important to remember that this is the first time that AM and FM radio frequencies are tendered in Mexico for commercial use.
