Brazil. One of TV Globo's subsidiaries, TV Integração, adopted VIBE CP6000, the contribution platform of Thomson Video Networks RD5000 and MPEG-2/4 receiver/decoder to provide video services to its more than 5.4 million viewers.
With this equipment, TV Integração solved the problem of aging of the existing equipment in its central broadcasting plant, after an exhaustive evaluation process. Thomson Video Networks worked on the project with its authorized distributor, based in São Paulo, Videodata diffusion.
"Despite strong competition from other vendors, We opted for Thomson networking technology, because it offers the most advanced contribution and receiver decoding capabilities that fit our needs," said Paulo Feres, chief technology officer of TV Integração.
The new system offers a modular design that supports up to four hot-swappable cards to drive an unprecedented eight high-definition channels per 1RU chassis. Each card handles up to two encoders or decoders and has incorporated the latest industry-leading MPEG video compression technology for video quality.
The beneficiaries of this technological adoption were its viewers from the state of Minas Gerais, with more than 230 cities. The network offers a full range of local and national news and entertainment programming on four free-to-air channels.
