Argentina. One of the countries in Latin America with the highest penetration of subscription television is Argentina, according to the data revealed on the number of affiliates in 2011, a figure that represented a growth of 11% over the previous year.
In total, there were 10.6 million households that in December 2011 had Pay-TV service, of the 13.03 million estimated to be throughout the country, that is, 8.5 out of 10 households have these services.
A particular fact is the penetration of this service by socioeconomic stratum, since the number of users of the low affiliated stratum reaches 74.6%, of medium stratum 86% and of the high 89%. And calculations indicate that the daily television consumption of affiliates exceeds three hours.
To this is added that for the first half of 2012 the audience of subscription television operators increased by 8%, while the total of 2011 reached 20%, mainly due to the interest of viewers to consume international series. Other content desired on subscription TV are sports and utilitarians.
By operators, Cablevisión has the highest percentage of the market with 40.9%; followed far behind by Supercanal, 6%; Intercable Network, 5.3%; Telecentro, 4.8%, and 20% of the Pay-TV market is in the hands of another 700 small companies.
