Argentina already has HD TV

Atina, the new digital television service, works with the European standard and reaches areas not covered by cable or where there is low competition. The company aims to reach 10,000 subscribers in the first year on air.

While spreading in Argentina the debate over which standard of high digital television definition will be the officially adopted, the market demonstrates which is ultimately the one in charge and the offers in that segment.

During the past month In July, Antina, a television system, was launched in that market digital whose primary objective is to capture the public of the areas where the cable does not reach or where there is low competition, such as gated communities far from the Capital Federal, vessels (thanks to the fact that the system supports the mobility) or certain countries, as well as some corners specific to the southern area of Greater Buenos Aires.

We have no intention of cannibalize the market, we are venture capitalists and we are aware of the central role of the media communication, says Carlos Zabalza, president of Antina. The company is part of the Telcom Ventures Group of Argentina, a technology investment holding company that is more than 12 years old of history in the market of that country.

Antina's proposal is based on 60 digital channels through which it will transmit signals from video and audio. Also included are the five air channels characteristic of the city and some proposals that do not appear in the menu of other local operators, such as the channel Sports Goal, identified with former footballer Enzo Francescoli, or the first Chinese news channel in Spanish. This system will also allow customers to hire direct and interactive way additional services, such as games or particular selections of programming packages.

Our products are from free choice, that is why we do not carry out any agreement with countries or closed neighborhoods, because we do not want to impose Antina there. We do develop sales campaigns and we we bring those sites to make presentations, he explains the top manager of the company.

With the standard changed
One of the most striking aspects is the selection of European standard for transmissions, when the The U.S. seems to be imposing itself in the region. Found which is more modern than ATSC and, in addition, is better suited to our business needs, highlights Carlos Zabalza.

In case the government is finally decide by the ATSC standard, this would not represent any inconvenience to Antina's business. The signal will continue arriving at the TV in our standard and will be interpreted by the decoder; there will be no substantial change for the customer in terms of quality of service or quantity of channels, says Zabalza.

Transmission takes place in UHF frequency and signal can be received on any TV, as long as, as mentioned, it has the suitable encoder. When transmitting over the air, we do not need wire and we reach the customer with ease, comfort and speed, emphasizes Zabalza, who assures that they are the same channels that exist in telecommunications since always, we are not inventing nothing, but taking advantage of existing conditions.

Regarding the costs you will have the payment of Antina, the executive of the company relates that our Differentiation has to do with the fact that we bring something new to the market, something that does not exist. We're not going to compete for prices. At the same time, Zabalza himself warns that of all In a way, our fertilizer values will not be far from the standards that are handled in Argentina. The president of the organization explains that the final price remains determined by signal values, not technology used, and in our case, we provide the same signals as other operators.

The goal of the company is reach 10,000 subscribers in its first 12 months of operations and be between 15,000 and 20,000 for the period following.

High-level digital television Definition in Argentina has, paradoxically, a future that it looks blurry. It is time to check if proposals such as those of Antina allows to clarify the panorama.
