During sportel's conference in Monaco, held in October (after the close of this edition of TV and Video), Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympic Committee, will lead a panel on the growing alliance between professional sports and television, and how television is changing the rules of sports – with spectacle criteria--, for the benefit of viewers. The kimonos of the judokas are now colored, the sets in tennis are no longer eternal but the tie-break is resorted to, the yellow balls in tennis, the organization of the pentathlon in a single day of the Olympics ... and many more innovations have been induced by television.
Rogge will invite an exchange of ideas between sports administrators and representatives of television networks to discuss their suggestions and analyze what improvements can be implemented on the playing fields, modernizing the rules and improving access to sports broadcasts.
