Argentina. Within the framework of the Strategic Project "Development and Technological Innovation for Disaster Monitoring", the Patagonian Andean Forest Research and Extension Center (CIEFAP) together with the company Life style media from the city of Trevelin, province of Chubut, developed a multirotor drone "Multirotor FENIX 3d" that transports a high-resolution optical camera and a high-sensitivity thermal camera.
It is estimated that with greater articulation, training of these new technologies with the Provincial and National Fire Management Systems, the drone will be a very useful tool for decision-making in coordination with all air and ground means. It should be remembered that the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation is a promoting member of the Board of Directors of the institution.
This strategic project was agreed between the five Patagonian provinces and the national bodies that make up the CIEFAP Board of Directors. The project is funded at this stage by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation of the Nation in coordination with the Patagonian provinces. In the future stages of the project, the drone is associated with a high-tech mobile platform for the optimization of information management before, during and after extreme events such as forest fires and volcanic eruptions.
The MULTIROTOR FENIX 3D shows high reliability and was able to capture stable images in adverse conditions, where gusts of 35-45km/h were recorded. The autonomy in such conditions was also satisfactory, between 30 and 35 minutes, which positions the FENIX 3d considering all its features as an internationally competitive drone.
It was demonstrated that the drone is a complementary tool to manned and ground aerial means, being necessary a greater articulation and training in these new technologies with the provincial and national fire management systems, so that innovation and technological adoption is effective.
