Colombia. The company Broadcast Equipment and Parts, aimed strongly at Digital Radio technology. At TecnoTelevisión&Radio 2015 they invited John F. Schneider, Director for Latin America of HD Radio, who during the fair exhibited to the attendees the advances of the so-called HD Radio and explained how it works.
HD Radio technology is a digital radio standard developed by iBiquity Digital and recognized by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), its operation for transmission is the same as the already known analog stations with the difference that the audio is in digital format transmitted through a continuous data flow, this parallel to analog transmission.
The audio is compressed and transmitted by a transmitter designed specifically for HD Digital Radio broadcasting, along with signals for text data such as artist and song information, weather, traffic, etc. The stations that have implemented this technology, continue their analog transmissions so as not to lose audience with users who do not yet have the HD Radio receiver, so they operate in a hybrid way.
The time will come when analog transmitters will be turned off and the spectrum can be used more to generate more channels and have more data applications, john F. Schneider said.
