International. Sony has acquired Memnon Archiving Services SA, a Brussels-based company offering services in the field of digital archive preservation and digitization. Memnon's archiving technologies and services, together with media and workflow solutions and the leading position in the broadcast industry, will create new market opportunities for advanced multimedia asset management and digitization solutions for audiovisual companies, broadcasters and institutions around the world.
Katsunori Yamanouchi, Vice President of Sony, commented: "Memnon has extensive industry-leading expertise in handling high-value files, a veteranship that has been recognised by numerous renowned institutions around the world. Together with Memnon, Sony will be able to support customers in the challenge of retaining hundreds of millions of hours of archived and valuable audiovisual content in a variety of formats."
He added that it is an ideal complement to Sony's Media Lifecycle Service and the current portfolio of IT and audiovisual solutions around the world, thus enhancing an already quite impressive offering of asset digitization, storage, distribution and monetization capabilities.
Sony's acquisition of Memnon Archiving Services SA is effective from the first of July and includes all assets, including intellectual property rights, as well as its software and technology solutions engineering capabilities. Memnon will become part of Sony at Sony Europe Ltd.
