Argentina. With the enactment of Law 27078, known as Digital Argentina, the door is opened for new players in television in the country.
The rule contemplates that providers that have the single license of Telecommunications Services become to have a new license without the need for extra procedures, prohibits licensees of ICT services from offering direct-to-home television via satellite.
This with the aim of promoting the development of local networks, and protects small and medium-sized enterprises, cooperatives and cable companies, providing promotion areas and waiting periods for the entry of "large" licensees to audiovisual media services.
The Secretary of Communications, Norberto Berner, expressed his satisfaction and assured: "This new Law was designed from the home of each of the users and will guarantee quality and equal access without distinction of the place where you have chosen to live. In addition, it will allow the user to have the possibility to choose between different options which is the one that best suits their needs". He also valued the additions that the project had during its passage through Congress and added that "today we have a Law of which we can be proud."
