MADRID, 21 Aug. (Portaltic/EP) -
Motorola will no longer use the Xoom name for its products. The American company has reached an agreement with the online payment company Xoom, with which it had entered into litigation over the brand that Motorola used for its Android tablets.
Patent infringement litigation, whether over technology, device or registered names, is the order of the day. Two of the biggest giants in the sector, Apple and Samsung, still have open litigation around the world for these types of lawsuits. However, these problems don't just arise among large companies.
In 2011, Motorola launched its Xoom tablet. However, an online payment company with the same name as the Android tablet model of the American decided to file a lawsuit to stop using that name, claiming that the device had nothing to do with its company.
Finally, the two sides have reached a friendly agreement of which confidential details are not known, according to The Register, but which forces Motorola, now owned by Google, to remove this denomination for the device.
A Motorola spokesman confirmed the deal, saying the matter "has been resolved with satisfaction by both parties.
