Snell announced that Argentina's PromTV and Spain's Unitecnic— both belonging to the Mediapro Group — updated PromTV's studios and playout center with a full range of Snell products to support the launch of ESPN HD in Argentina.
The equipment that was installed in PromTV, located in Buenos Aires, are: Multiformat SD/HD Kahuna production switcher , Sirius and Cygnus routers, Modular IQ infrastructure and Alchemist Ph.C – HD TX and MachHD standard converters.
Unitecnic managed the project that improved PromTV's facilities to support the production and broadcast of sports programming from the United States, for the Latin American market. This project was developed with a gradual upgrade, starting with HD production and then establishing the redundant ESPN HD playout .
The installation was carried out in two PromTV studios and in a new technical area that includes a server room and two control rooms. Each studio has a Kahuna production switcher , one configured for HD operations and the other for HD.
In the server room, a 256x256 Sirius (expandable to 512x512) handles routing while three MachHD systems provide standards conversion from incoming SD and HD files, as well as programming cross-conversion (NTSC/PAL) between Argentina, the United States and Europe.
