Riedel's Connect Duo provides the key to an intelligent and expeditious intercom interface to the outside world via ISDN or public switched telephone networks. The device, introduced at IBC 2005, combines an ISDN S0 interface, which allows two simultaneous connections using B-ISDN channels, and an analog PSTN telephone hybrid in a compact 1/2 RU device, making it the ideal solution for mobile units as well as other applications.
Fully compatible with all intercom systems, Connect Duo easily integrates with Riedel's Artist array and is able to remotely control panels via ISDN. It can be configured directly from Riedel's Director software. The system can also be controlled from the built-in keyboard and via a large, fully graphic display, or directly from the Artist's control panels.
Connect Duo, which can stream and receive two separate channels of audio over the same S0 interface, allows connections to be established to two different destinations. Each audio encoder uses a 64 kbit/s ISDN B channel. It is possible to use two different encoders (G.711 or G.722) for each of the B channels.
For incoming calls, the device automatically detects the capabilities of the remote set-top box and switches to the correct mode (3.4 or 7 kHz). In analog mode for PSTN, an audio encoder with a bandwidth of 3.4 kHz is available. The Connect Duo provides both the balanced analog transformer and analog or digital AES3/EBU audio I/O ports for direct analog and digital connection to the matrix ports.
