ANE to improve public TV coverage

ane

Colombia. The National Spectrum Agency, ANE, began the update of the Technical Television Plan, which establishes new frequencies with which it seeks to improve the reach of the television broadcasting service in Colombia.

Through this plan, 78 frequencies are defined out of the 355 necessary for the deployment of Digital Terrestrial Television, which requires RTVC and regional channels to ensure that the population of 173 municipalities has better access to the content offered by the country's broadcast open television.

In this context, the ANE plays a fundamental role in planning the frequencies available for future television stations, thus initially contributing to the expansion and coverage of the signal of RTVC and regional channels.

The update of the Technical Television Plan, created in 2014, will facilitate the arrival of television with digital technology to different corners of the country, allowing the efficient use of the spectrum in an interference-free environment.

In addition, an appendix called "Planned Channel Distribution" has been created, detailing the planned channels in the frequency range from 470 MHz to 698 MHz (channels 14 to 51).

A new column called 'Spectrum associated with the service area', established in the Tables of Technical Network Characteristics (CCTR), is also incorporated. This column determines whether the channel allocated to each municipality, for the different types of digital television operation, is associated with the established service area, which facilitates the reading and applicability of the Television Technical Plan by stakeholders.
