Mexico. The Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones, IFT, presented the results of the call that seeks to award new AM and FM radio frequencies in different states of the country.
Among the results obtained, it is highlighted that 103 lots in 23 Federal Entities received offers from 40 different participants, who offered a total amount of 383.6 million pesos.
This amount considers the applicable incentives (called non-economic components) that include a new competitor in broadcasting (15%), a new competitor in the interest band (10%), as well as the commitment to comply with IBOC obligations, that is, to provide the sound broadcasting service in analog and digital hybrid format.
In this sense, of the 103 lots that received an offer, 87 are in the FM band for a total of 378.8 million pesos and 16 lots in the AM band for 4.8 million pesos.
Additionally, five participants with the Highest Valid Offers in the FM band accepted IBOC obligations in 6 different lots.
The states with the highest frequency demands were: Zacatecas with 17, Sinaloa with 10, Quintana Roo with 9, Coahuila with 7 and Yucatan, Michoacán, Durango and Chiapas with 5 each.
In the next 20 working days the Plenary of the Institute will issue the rulings of the tender.
