Mexico. The Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, presented the Special Report regarding the consumption of audiovisual content by people over 60 years of age, during the period from August 2020 to July 2021.
The document also presents examples of television, radio and internet productions that are part of the programmatic offer aimed at this population.
According to the report, from August 2020 to July 2021, the average time of exposure to television during the analyzed period was 6 hours with 59 minutes per day, which is greater than the average time of the general population, which reaches 5 hours with 39 minutes.
The average number of older adults reached by television was 77.80% and the time of greatest consumption by this population was from 9:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., when 46.35% of them had the television on.
Some of the main results of this report are:
- Most television consumption in adults aged 60 years and over is done through broadcast television, which represents 61.58% of its viewing;
- The main contents that they see through this signal are the telenovelas and dramatized unitaries;
- During the period from August 2020 to July 2021, adults aged 65 and over were reached by radio by 33.62%.
- This segment recorded an average time of 2 hours and 9 minutes tuning into radio content.
- The time of greatest exposure to radio in this age group was from 09:00 to 09:30 hours, with an ignition of 11.56%.
- In Mexico City, 43% of the radio consumption of older adults is carried out in AM band stations.
Through this report, which is an approach to television and radio consumption habits, we sought to generate updated information that is useful for the industry and for the general public; in addition to promoting reflection on the need to produce and transmit content that meets their tastes and entertainment needs.
Likewise, it is sought that with the contents that are generated for this sector, their right to information and freedom of expression is respected; and that their representation in the content being transmitted is not a stereotyped or discriminatory representation.
