Mexico. Much of the world tuned in from July 23 to August 8 to watch the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo, Japan. In Mexico, the national television network Imagen Televisión acquired a lighting package optimized for Elation's broadcast and employed the equipment in a contemporary studio in Mexico City where coverage of the Tokyo Summer Olympics took place.
The Imagen Televisión team broadcast some 180 hours of Olympic coverage from space during the 16-day period. The studio, which consisted of two sections, a corner with stylized scenery and an adjacent green screen area, was evenly lit with Elation KL Fresnel 8 FC, KL Panel and TVL Softlight DW luminaires.
In charge of the lighting of the studio was Abel Guillermo León López, lighting manager of Imagen Televisión, assisted by Raúl García Padilla and Alan Daniel Espinosa Pineda. "For this studio set, we were looking for LED source luminaires that could provide soft lighting with a good beam angle, as the studio grille is specially designed for this type of lighting," Lopez said. "We chose the KL Fresnel 8 FC because it met the requirements for this type of luminaire (Fresnel) but with an LED source. One of the most important features of this device for us is its excellent color temperature control."
Optimized for specific transmission requirements, the KL Fresnel 8 FC can adjust to light changing from pure white to green or magenta through a green-magenta shift adjustment and a virtual gel library. Able to match the white balance for the camera, users can easily change the color temperature without the use of green filters and gels plus/minus. Lopez added, "Also important was the fact that its RGBMA LED motor gives us full-spectrum color, has a large lumen output of 18,000, and has a good opening angle."
The broadcast-quality KL Panel soft lights, a full-color spectrum light panel and adjustable color temperature, were chosen "for their excellent reflector that gives us a very soft and bright light," Lopez said. "It's excellent and accurate in color temperature and also the color mix is fantastic. It's really ideal for what we do on television." He said THAT TVL Softlight DW, a dynamic white soft light luminaire with> 95CRI, was chosen for many of the same reasons: its soft LED light, excellent temperature control (3200 K - 5600 K) and beam angle (130 degrees). .
"Thanks to our friend and sales executive Miguel Licona, who recommended the lighting equipment, we were able to meet the needs of the Tokyo 2020 project," Lopez concluded.
