Latin America. LiveU played a pivotal role in this year's Summer Games, bringing all the excitement and live results every day from Tokyo to viewers around the world.
The Tokyo Games saw a 400% increase in LiveU implementation compared to Rio 2016, reflecting the growing trust and reliance on LiveU solutions for high-quality, reliable and cost-effective live broadcasts, replacing traditional satellite and fiber methods for coverage of major events as well as interviews and behind the scenes.
LiveU's end-to-end solutions were used throughout Tokyo by hundreds of news and sports broadcasters. More than 1,300 units were in use, delivering 19,000 live sessions of the different sporting events to 50 countries around the world and 50,000 hours of continuous live broadcasts. LiveU's LU800 native 5G production solution was in action for the first time at a major international sporting event using NTT DOCOMO's 5G, with its multi-camera capabilities providing dynamic coverage from multiple angles.
Another novelty was the adoption of the LiveU Matrix IP cloud video management solution for the cost-effective distribution of live streams over the public Internet. LiveU ran more than 30 distribution channels to nearly 100 stations worldwide on the Matrix platform, all dedicated to the Games.
Ronen Artman, Vice President of Marketing at LiveU, said: "Without live audiences, it was even more important for the stations to convey the amazing achievements of the athletes and the atmosphere around the Games. Camera crews got closer to the action than ever before with the LiveU units used at each location: inside stadiums, off the track, and on the water. From the start of the opening ceremony to the events themselves, the award ceremonies on the podiums and the interviews with the athletes and coaches, LiveU was there at every moment, bringing pride to the fans who support their country's teams."
LiveU's specialized team was on site during the Games, providing dedicated 24/7 service and support to the broadcast teams. LiveU's NOC (Network Operations Center) continuously monitored the live presentation of the live broadcasts.
