Argentina. Because it considers that an economic concentration is deepening and restricts competition, the National Commission for the Defense of Competition, CNDC, of Argentina recommended that the authorities annul the Disney-Fox merger in the country.
The decision of the control body gives the companies a period of 15 to respond to the observations made and propose solutions that allow them to continue with the merger process.
The CNDC's argument is that the merger can generate effects on competition that end up being detrimental to the economic interest in general.
The main problem is that the merger would concentrate the two most important sports content networks: Fox Sports and ESPN, leaving 7 of the 9 sports signals that operate in Argentina.
This merger has also had qualms and observations from regulators in different Latin American countries, such as Brazil, Chile and Mexico. In the latter, the DECISION of the IFT is pending and has been postponed due to the pandemic.
