Peru. The Ministry of Transport and Communications, MTC, empowered, exceptionally and temporarily, the holders of AM broadcasting, to increase their coverage to reinforce the transmission of the contents of "Aprendo en casa" in the most remote areas of the country.
In this sense and to facilitate the continuity of the educational service during the State of Emergency, the MTC empowers the holders of broadcasting authorizations, who are transmitting the educational initiative of Aprendo en Casa, to increase their power without having to submit an application to the ministry.
This measure allows broadcasters to achieve a greater coverage range and reach more homes with students living in distant population centers, which for geographical reasons does not receive the signal from the media.
Thus, some regions such as Huancavelica, Cusco, Puno, Apurímac that provide the broadcasting service in Onda Media (OM), where most of their territories are rural areas will have the possibility of increasing their power to reinforce the transmission of Aprendo en Casa.
In total there are 580 radio stations nationwide that could expand their coverage for the benefit of more children and adolescents, in areas of preferential social interest, according to Directorial Resolution No. 0775-2020/28, published in the official newspaper El Peruano.
The regulation also provides that, according to the Radio and Television Law, holders of broadcasting authorizations that increase their coverage must operate without affecting the quality or interfering with other duly authorized radio stations or telecommunications services.
In this way, the sector seeks to support in bringing education closer through broadcasting services that have been playing a decisive role and committed to informing and educating citizens during this health emergency generated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
