Colombia. The Minister of ICT, Sylvia Constaín, said that the process of structuring the auction of spectrum in the bands of 700 and 1900 megahertz (MHz) has a greater impact with the approval of the bill to modernize the ICT sector, since it allows more families in deep Colombia to access the Internet.
"With the bill we have a stronger connectivity plan that allows us to prioritize many more regions that we were not going to be able to reach. Today, we are structuring the auction of the two most important bands that the Colombian spectrum has, which are those of 700 and 1900. Those two highways are going to be auctioned this year and thanks to the project, the impact will be much greater," said the minister.
In fact, Constaín explained that the band of 700 is the one that best allows to reach the rural areas of deep Colombia, where connectivity will change the way of life and the economy of the families that live in those places.
And although this week the Ministry of ICT released the results of a report confirming the presence of mobile internet in all the municipal capitals of the country, "the truth is that if we leave Inírida we no longer have connectivity. However, solutions will come to the country next year, when we will begin to see the impact on the regions, including indigenous areas," the official added.
Constaín assured that very soon the places to which the Government will arrive with connectivity will be known and that the Ministry of ICT will be aware that the times are met.
