International. Rejecting the argument that the merger between the two companies does not affect competition or their users, a U.S. judge gave Time Warner and AT&T free rein to merge, as they had announced a year and a half ago.
The judge's decision responds to the request to block the negotiation by the United States Government, which argued that this merger violated antitrust law.
AT&T, a content distributor, will pay $85 billion for time Warner, a content creator, making it one of the biggest businesses in the telecommunications sector and encouraging other businesses rumored to be on the way, such as Comcast and Fox.
The U.S. government can still appeal the judge's decision, so AT&T said that before proceeding with the decision, it will wait six days for the government to indicate whether it will appeal.
