Argentina. Argentina hosted the VII Assembly of the Inter-American Telecommunications Commission, CITEL, belonging to the Organization of American States, OAS. This meeting is the main inter-American forum for the development of telecommunications and information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the hemisphere and, in addition, constitutes the most important meeting where the actions of the organization for the next period are defined.
In this sense, Argentina assumed the presidency of the Permanent Steering Committee of CITEL (COM/CITEL) in the new period 2018-2022. "We have to promote universal access to ICTs and for that we must generate equitable, transparent, stable, predictable and non-discriminatory regulatory and legal environments. Therefore, we reaffirm our commitment to promote the development of ICT through CITEL as an ideal area to carry out this task in the Americas, and thus plan the connectivity policies of the region, "said the president of Enacom, during his inauguration speech.
This assembly, which takes place every four years, brings together around 250 delegates representing 34 countries of the Americas, together with the most important telecommunications companies in the region. Likewise, the 2018 version, which was held in Buenos Aires from March 13 to 15, was attended by senior officials in the field of telecommunications, private sector leaders, experts, representatives of international organizations and civil society.
Among the main topics that were addressed during the conference, the digital economy, infrastructure and connectivity, among others, were highlighted.
