Angénieux, the art of optics at the service of cinema

Colombia. During the International Light Show, held between May 16 and 21 in the cities of Bogotá, Jean-Marc Bouchut, representative of the company Angénieux, professional manufacturer of lenses for cinema, was present, who spoke to TVyvideo+Radio about his Optimo Style 48-130 T3 lens, which joins the Optimo Style 16-40 T2.8 and 30-76 T 2.8 in the compact Optimo Style Angénieux line. This was presented at NAB 2017 and comes to satisfy the interest of cinematographers.

Jean-Marc Bouchut commented that "the new Optimo Style 48-130 is the longest zoom in the lightweight series. It weighs only 4.3lb/1.95kg and has a focus close to 3'1"/0.94m. This is the perfect lens for close-ups, portraits or tight photos, whether handheld, steadicam, remote heads, gimbal, platforms or drones."

The Angénieux Optimo Style 48-130 has excellent optical performance. It covers an image circle up to 34.6mm in diameter (RED 8K helium sensor or ARRI Open Gate, among others) with a constant aperture of T3 across the entire zoom range. As with the rest of the Optimo Style family, it has no zoom ramp, minimal breathing, distortion and optical aberration.

The lens is part of the robust construction of the Optimo Style series with 320-degree rotation of the focus barrel, and industry-standard 0.8M gears in the focus, iris and zoom barrels. The lens fits the latest digital cameras and mirror cameras and matches the rest of the Angénieux lineup.

Jean-Marc Bouchut stressed that the company created the "Pierre Angénieux Excellens in Cinematography" award which is in its  fifth edition. This recognition pays tribute to a cinematographer whose work marked in some way the history of world cinema.

The recognitions have had characters such as: Philippe Rousselot (2013), Vilmos Zsigmond (2014), Roger A. Deakins (2015) and Peter Suschitzky (2016) and for this version of 2017, the honoree is the Director of Photography Christopher Doyle, this director is of Australian origin and also known by his Chinese name, Du Ke Feng (like the wind). The award will be presented this Friday 26 May 2017 during the Cannes Film Festival, in the Buñuel room at the Palais des Festivals.
