Colombia. One of the talks that most attracted attention in the forums of Andina Link Cartagena 2017, was that of Carolina Angarita Barrientos, General Manager of Google in Colombia. And not for holding the position he holds within Google, but for the policy of sharing successful experiences for them without any qualms.
She is an expert in Media and Digital Marketing, Social Communicator and Journalist from the Javeriana University of Colombia, she completed her master's degree in International Journalism at the University of Westminster in London. She is Director of the Foundation Conexión Bienestar, was Founder and President of the Zyyei-Ennovva Group digital advertising agency, also served as Vice President of Programming and Marketing of RCN Television. For 2013 she was awarded as the best CEO of the Year, in the Top Minority Business Awards of the Miami Chamber of Commerce.
With this curriculum, his presentation was one of the most anticipated and from this I share my observations on rules that support much of Google's success.
1. Rule number one; think of the user not the competition. Users are or are not with you as customers and on that you must plan the offer, give it a better service, adjusted to what it needs, do not deceive it with promotions or false expectations, that type of thing distances the user in that ultimately it is the best reference that any type of service provider company has. Provide quality service and invest in customer service.
2. Rule number two; Innovation not instant perfection. Many of us stay working on the prototype of our projects and we do not dare because we are too perfectionist in it, while we are in that plan, others come out ahead with our ideas, which we believed were the best, in a global world many are developing perhaps what you have been planning to do for a long time but do not dare. The advice I leave is "dare, throw yourself at once, do not wait for everything to be perfect".
3. Rule number three; 70-20-10, this is perhaps the one that caught my attention the most and consists of managing the time we dedicate to business, maybe we do not realize how valuable time is and managing it in the following way can be reflected in better results: 70% of your time dedicate it to what you are currently generating money, to what represents your current income, 20% of the time dedicate it to things that have to do with your business unit but that represent an advance in it, new business models that start from the base model, search for other territories for expansion, what refers to growth on the base model of your business and the remaining 10%, dedicate it to "crazy" those things that there is no certainty that it can be expected and that is why it is called that, crazy things.
4. Rule number four; to think 10X, that what it means, is to always have very high goals, if in your initial business plan is to grow by 10%, multiply it by 10 and that is your goal. "The higher the vision, the farther one goes," Carolina added in her speech.
This introduction undoubtedly captivated all the attention of the attendees and then moved on to the advances that Google makes in the generation of content and its consumption, how to use its tools and advance as a Google Partner. The final message is to use the tools they have provided for free use and if something does not know how to do it, simply google it.
