Mexico. The Plenary of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, resolved to authorize access to multiprogramming to two television concessionaires that operate five concessions in an equal number of cities in the country. This will increase the supply of available free-to-air television channels for the benefit of audiences, broadcasting concessionaires and content producers.
The concessionaires benefiting from the measure are Multimedios Televisión, S.A. de C.V., and Televisión Digital, S.A. de C.V.
It should be remembered that multiprogramming is a benefit derived from the digitization of television and consists of the distribution of more than one programming channel on the same transmission channel. Transmitting a greater number of programmatic contents through the same spectral resource concessioned contributes to competition, diversity and plurality.
The entity pointed out that in all cases, the requests comply with the provisions of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, the Federal Law on Telecommunications and Broadcasting (LFTR) and the General Guidelines for Access to Multiprogramming.
