International. GatesAir has significantly increased the IP transport capabilities of its INTRAPLEX STL HD Link system. Expanded capabilities allow support for a higher number of channels and increase audio fidelity, while backup connectivity further strengthened IP transport reliability.
Introduced in 2009, the Intraplex HD Link was the industry's first digital STL to deal with HD Radio, AM/FM and IP data transport over 950 MHz and fixed STL connections, ensuring a solution that requires no additional components.
The new updated architecture leverages Intraplex IP Link's advanced signal encoding to increase the capacity of STL HD links to carry IP traffic, and adds built-in Intraplex SynchroCast simulcast technology. All traffic is prioritized over the robust and reliable HD Link connection, with the IP Link supply for robust delivery over the same STL 950 MHz link.
Using these technical innovations, radio stations can now offer up to 13 stereo channels via the STL 3 MB/s link using 192 Kb/s AAC compression; and further scale audio channel transport with advanced codecs such as AAC-HE, AAC-HEv2 or Opus. The initial IP data capacity of the HD Link can be extended from the previous vertex of 1,536 Kb/s to 2400, 2800 or 3200 Kb/s depending on the transmitter and audio fidelity needs, as well as RF link condition.
