Mexico. The Plenary of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, resolved to modify the Annual Program of Use and Exploitation of Frequency Bands 2015.
This decision was taken after having concluded, on February 16, the deadline to receive from interested parties the requests for the inclusion of frequency bands and geographical coverage additional or different from those originally contemplated in the document published on December 30, 2014 in the Official Gazette of the Federation.
Thus, in the field of telecommunications, the 2015 Program with its modifications provides for the eleventhization of 80 MHz of spectrum for the deployment of International Mobile Telecommunications services in the band 1.7/2.1 GHz and 10 MHz for services of provision of capacity for private radio communication.
Likewise, the Program considers 26 MHz of spectrum for the operation of specialized radio communication systems of fleets for concessions for public use , and also includes various segments of spectrum at the regional level for the provision of mobile communication services for concessions for social use, reaching in some regions up to a total of 10 MHz.
As for the broadcasting service, the 2015 Program with its modifications contemplates the concession of 191 frequencies for commercial use, 14 frequencies for public use and 97 for social use for the sound broadcasting service in modulated frequency, as well as 69 frequencies for commercial use, 2 frequencies for public use and 3 frequencies for social use for the service of sound broadcasting in modulated amplitude in various regions of the country.
In addition, they make available the spectral reserves for community and indigenous concessions for social use referred to in article 90 of the Federal Law on Telecommunications and Broadcasting.
The Institute clarified that the requests for the inclusion of new frequency bands and geographical coverage do not in themselves constitute a request to obtain a concession, nor for the granting of a concession title or a preference for obtaining it, but were only received to, where appropriate, be considered in the aforementioned Program.
The 2015 Program with its modifications will be published in the coming days in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) and on the Institute's website.
