International. Alpha Technologies inaugurated a new training center that will provide hands-on training for Energy professionals in Major Infrastructures in the cable telecommunications industry.
Representatives from Alpha, cable industry executives and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) were present at the ceremony. John Hewitt, Alpha's Vice President of Broadband Sales and Product Management, chaired the event, gave presentations and offered a tour of the new center.
"Alpha's services and power equipment are used by the industry's leading Multiple-System Operator (MSO)," said John Hewitt, vice president of Broadband Sales and Product Management at Alpha. "We were very grateful to have many of the operators represented at the opening of the new training center."
The state-of-the-art training room and classroom were designed and wired by Alpha technicians with the latest in Alpha cable/broadband power equipment, including a variety of rack-mounted power systems, rectifiers, inverters, and battery banks that can be found in a typical headend installation.
Alpha will use the center for product testing and hands-on training, and to show customers the equipment in use. The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) is also expected to begin using the center later for its best practice training classes at major facilities this year.
"Providing hands-on training with equipment that is considered the industry standard helps improve grid reliability and reduce operational costs," said Greg Zediker, director of Construction and Power at Alpha Technologies' Main Facilities. "Showcasing our power equipment in a major functional center allows us to highlight Alpha's technology leadership, improve safety, and standardize preventive and installation maintenance practices."
The training center is located within 14,000 square meters of Alpha Technologies' Suwanee headquarters. Three companies that are part of The Alpha Group (Alpha Technologies, Altair Advanced Industries and Alpha Industrial Power) have 150 employees in this place. It is located approximately 53 kilometers north of Atlanta, the ninth largest metropolitan area in the United States.
