Peru. The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru announced that it will increase the necessary actions to reduce and eradicate the unauthorized radio stations that currently operate in the country.
The entity indicated that the operation of unauthorized stations is a serious infraction that is punishable by a fine of up to 50 tax units, without prejudice to being denounced for the crime of aggravated theft of the radio spectrum, whose custodial sentence is up to eight years and confiscation of the equipment.
Sanctions for pirated radio and television will not only go to channel operators. The Peruvian Ministry said that public or private persons or entities that contract advertising with illegal broadcasting stations will be fined up to 30 tax units.
There are several difficulties generated by the operation of television and radio stations without authorization. Among others, they affect radionavigation, putting at risk the safety of air passenger transport and, consequently, people's lives. In addition, it harms the quality of operations of formal stations.
