Latin America. Sony launched the PXW-X160 camcorder, the latest addition to the XDCAMTM Series of its professional camcorders. It features three 1/3" Full HD Exmor CMOS sensors and a newly developed 25x optical zoom G Lens, which extends from a 26mm wide angle.
This camcorder can record in XAVC Intra and Long GOP format, allowing 10-bit sampling for high-definition recordings with rich tonal expression, as well as MPEG HD422 at 50 Mbps, a format widely chosen by most broadcasters and production studios. It can also record in MPEG HD420 format at 35 Mbps, AVCHDTM and DV.
This advanced camcorder was created to meet the needs of broadcasting stations, production studios, and corporate and event productions, with ideal performance and features for news programs, documentaries, events and more. The PXW-X160 is the successor to Sony's popular HXR-NX5E/P and PMW-160 camcorders, and is expected to become a major competitor in this segment.
The difference between the PXW-X160 and the previously announced PXW-X180 is the omission of some functions, such as wireless functionality, NFC and GPS, which effectively reduces the price while maintaining the same level of high performance.
"Our XDCAM product line continues to improve: this latest model brings together all of Sony's latest key features, at an affordable price, for users in Latin America," said Angiecarla Eyzaguirre, Senior Marketing Manager, Professional Solutions Latin America.
Main features of the PXW-X160 camcorder
1. New G lens with 25x optical zoom and wide mm angle
This new lens offers the unrivalled quality of Sony's "G Lens" lenses and a 26mm viewing angle at the wide end of its 25x zoom range (35mm equivalent: 26mm to 650mm).
2. Image sensor, processor and lenses for image quality
The ExmorTM 3CMOS sensor system offers independent 1/3" CMOS image sensors for red, blue and green channels, each with 2.07 effective megapixels (16:9).
3. Compatible with XAVC format and a variety of other recording formats
In addition to XAVC Intra/Long GOP, the PXW-X160 camcorder can record in MPEG2, AVCHD and DV formats. The MXF file format is used for XAVC recording, which efficiently compresses the Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution using the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 codec. Image sampling is 4:2:2 10-bit with intraphotogram compression at 112 Mbps, or highly efficient Long GOP compression at 50/35/25 Mbps.
4. Support for SxS, XQD and DSD memory cards, plus Memory Stick
To support different workflows, the PXW-X160 camcorder includes two SxS memory card slots that enable high-speed read/write.
5. Variable ND filter
The PXW-X160 is Sony's first professional camcorder to include a continuously variable ND filter. This new system controls the density electronically and allows continuous adjustment from 1/4 ND to 1/128 ND with just a simple dial operation.
6. LCD panel type 3.5 and OLED viewfinder type 0.5
The PXW-X160 camcorder is equipped with a QHD LCD panel type 3.5 (960 x 540 x RGB, 16:9) that allows easy viewing in a wide range of lighting conditions.
7. MI Shoe (Multi-Interface Connector)
Compatible accessories that are placed on the Multi-Interface Connector (MI Shoe) can be controlled from the PXW-X160. For example, the HVL-LBPC video light can be turned on and off from the camcorder.
