Latin America. ARRI announced that they have completed the improvements to the ALEXA SXT (Super Xtended Technology) cameras. Now ARRI will deliver on its promise to provide updates for all ALEXA XT EV, ALEXA XT Plus and ALEXA XT Studio cameras delivered in 2015 and 2016.
In addition to the originally promised program of a no-cost upgrade for the SXT in Munich, ARRI has equipped its technical service locations in London, Los Angeles, New York, Beijing, Hong Kong and Mumbai to carry out this upgrade. For those who received their XT camera before 2015, a paid upgrade option is also available to turn their camera into a full SXT.
While retaining the sensor and user interface of the original ALEXA design, the possibilities of the ALEXA SXT cameras (ALEXA SXT EV, ALEXA SXT Plus and ALEXA SXT Studio) have been greatly expanded. Equipped with the powerful electronics and sophisticated image processing of the ALEXA 65, SXT cameras can control more recording formats and handle processor-intensive tasks such as calculating looks with 3D LUTs or color space conversions to Rec 2020, all in real time.
The new ARRI look management offers a wide range of unique looks while making it easy to maintain and share the look the cinematographer wants, both on set, in dailies and during editing. An optional moderate noise reduction helps when shooting in low light.
The ALEXA SXT has the most powerful and flexible monitoring features for perfect quality control on set. While all images recorded with ALEXA are HDR since the introduction of the camera in 2010, it is now also possible to monitor in HDR. Four independent monitoring outputs (viewfinder and 3 MON OUT outputs) provide the correct image to each team member and each of the MON OUT outputs can transmit to either a Rec 709 monitor or a 2020 Rec.
The new media bay accepts a wide range of recording media including SxS PRO, SxS PRO+, CFast 2.0 cards, XR capture discs and the new high-performance SXR capture discs. All this power allows an increase in speed for various recording formats, and ProRes can be recorded in a super secure way through a RAID function.
