Will there be a platform war?

Although video on demand platforms have become massive in recent years, having Netflix as the best known, followed by Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, HBO Go, Youtube, among many others, at the end of 2019 two new important players for this sector entered.

With the arrival of Apple TV+ and Disney+, the first with a great economic capacity to invest in original productions, and the second with an extensive archive of successful series and films, in addition to its constant production, the offer grows and much is said of a 'war' of platforms.

The competition between these platforms will occur mainly with two aspects: the price of the monthly subscription and the quantity and quality of the original content they offer. The latter shows a great picture for the industry for the future.

Another aspect that must be taken into account in this panorama is the role that both local television networks and subscription television operators will play, the latter being one of the most affected sectors since in countries such as the United States the number of subscribers of this service increases every month to migrate to the platforms. And it's a trend that has started in Latin America.

In the end, it is the audiovisual consumer who benefits, has the last word to choose which platform to pay and which to stay, because customer loyalty is one of the biggest challenges they face today in that sector.

The truth is that the business model changed and very surely in five years it will not be as we are living today.
