New players in the region

There are many years that we have been hearing about the possibility of the emergence of new national free-to-air television channels, both in Mexico and Colombia. Both countries are characterized by having only two chains of this type.

Everything seems to indicate that 2015 will be the year in which these processes finally conclude. In the case of Mexico, the processes are very advanced. It is expected that by March it will be known who will be the companies to which the tender will be granted, which is currently being studied by the Federal Institute of Telecommunications.

In Colombia things are not going so fast. The process to award a third channel remains tangled and it is not known when it can be defined. But at the beginning it was known the intention of the government to award 100% of Channel One to a single proponent and not to four as it currently is. Although this requires some changes to the law, many already see it as the third channel that has been talked about so much for the country.

Without a doubt, this is good news for the industry. Not only because there will be a greater television offer, they will also be business opportunities that will be generated for manufacturers, distributors and integrators, in the processes of adaptation of new channels and new job opportunities for professionals in the sector, marking growth and for the benefit of all.

Endnote. Finally, I want to highlight a novelty that for 2015 brings TVYVIDEO. From this year it will have a section dedicated to the technical topics of radio. This is the result of the reception that the radio show had that was included for the first time in TecnoTelevisión 2014 and that highlighted the need for specialized information that the sector has.

I'm keeping an eye out for your comments on the TV industry in [email protected]
