Sony launches two new professional 4K handheld cameras

Sony lanza dos nuevas cámaras profesionales 4K de mano

Latin America. Sony Professional Solutions Latin America has launched two new handheld 4K cameras, the NXCAM™ HXR-NX800 and the XDCAM™ PXW-Z200 with SDI interface and MXF container. Both models include artificial intelligence (AI)-powered recognition features, high-precision autofocus (AF), a new 20x optical zoom lens, a variable ND filter, and an assignable lens ring.

The new models combine portability, functionality, interoperability, and network connectivity to deliver an inclusive, high-quality recording and live streaming experience. These cameras are ideal for use by individual operators and small teams working in broadcast, corporate, educational, and worship environments.

"The new HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 cameras are designed based on Sony's expertise and significant heritage in the broadcast and content production industry, and combine the latest transformative technology trends including AI and all-in-one streaming," said Yang Cheng, Vice President, Imaging Solutions, Sony Electronics. "As we continue to strengthen our product portfolio, we are pleased to combine some of our most sought-after and beneficial features into one handheld camera that enables professionals of all types to make their work more impactful, more visually appealing and more efficient."

High-quality recordings
AI subject recognition, autofocus (AF), and 4K 50p/60p/120p recording make it easy to capture high-quality content with less manual work. The cameras are equipped with a BIONZ XR™ image processing engine and a specialized AI-powered processing unit that enables highly accurate and real-time subject recognition, tracking, and framing functions. In addition, the HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 cameras feature a stacked 1.0" Exmor RS™ CMOS sensor that offers high-sensitivity and low-noise.

The variable ND electronic filter allows the user to toggle between 1/4 and 1/128 density. In addition, users have the option to enable an automatic neutral density feature, which allows the camera to maintain the best exposure without the user having to make any adjustments, which is especially useful when switching quickly from internal to external environments. These models include two focus and zoom rings and two variable IRIS/ND dials, located side by side, to allow easy adjustment of exposure, along with focus and zoom. In addition, twelve assignable buttons offer greater customization possibilities.

Powerful zoom and image stabilization
Both cameras are equipped with Sony's G Lens™ series and include the 20x optical zoom lens that has 24mm wide-angle and 480mm telephoto coverage, and a maximum aperture of F2.8-F4.5. These models can achieve 30x (in 4K) and 40x (in HD) zoom, thanks to Sony's Clear Image Zoom technology

Active Mode combines electronic correction with optical image stabilization to deliver smoother images on the move.

New compact design
Both cameras feature a new foldable viewfinder, a removable microphone stand and a 3.5" foldable LCD screen that allows users to verify images and focus in brightly lit environments. The new models are compact and have an extremely lightweight design (HXR-NX800: approx. 1.93 kg (4 lb 4.1 oz.), PXW-Z200: approx. 1.96 kg (4 lb 5.1 oz) considering the feature set they come with. In addition, both models can be folded for easy storage and transport.

Interoperability and integration
The HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 cameras integrate seamlessly with the rest of Sony's cameras. Presets such as S-Cinetone™, ITU709, 709tone, HLG Live, HLG Mild and HLG Natural can be easily modified to match the colours of footage captured with other Sony broadcast cameras, such as the Cinema Line and AlphaTM series cameras.

The new cameras support a wide variety of recording formats, including XAVC HS, XAVC S, XAVC SI and XAVC HS Proxy (up to 16 Mbps). In addition, they support proxy recording, which reduces the burden of data storage and management during post-production and TC/UB recording, which is necessary when operating multiple cameras. The PXW-Z200 camera will also support XAVC (MXF) recording via a future firmware update expected in June 2025.

In addition, the HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 cameras are equipped with various interfaces, including HDMI Type-A, USB Type-C™, LAN, and REMOTE terminals. The PXW-Z200 supports SDI input/output (12G, 6G, 3G [Level A/B], HD), and TC input/output.

Professional Network Connectivity
The HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 cameras offer an all-in-one recording and transmission solution, allowing a single operator or small team to manage both the capture and distribution of footage with ease. By connecting the cameras to a network, e.g. Wi-Fi, you can live stream the recorded video footage to various streaming services and video sites via RTMP/RTMPS or SRT.

Versatile file transfer options include HEVC (H.265) and AVC (H.264) codecs, automatic upload to the cloud or an FTP server, and the ability to upload proxy data in chunks for secure, high-quality file transfer.

In addition, when combined with Sony's new portable data transmitter, PDT-FP1, the two new cameras support higher-quality streams with the company's unique QoS technology and Creators' Cloud for Enterprise services, including the camera's cloud link service, C3 Portal (service charged), XDCAM Pocket and the cloud streaming system, M2 Live.

Accessibility and sustainability
To honour Sony's commitment to developing accessible and environmentally friendly technologies, the HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 cameras' menus can be operated via voice readout and include a screen magnification function to magnify different views depending on the user's needs. The text-to-speech function can read texts and information on the screen, with the possibility of adjusting the volume and reading speed.

The new structure of these chambers incorporates resin and SORPLAS material™, a fireproof recycled plastic made from up to 99% recycled material. In the last 12 years, Sony has replaced approximately 426 tonnes of virgin plastic with recycled plastic in its camcorders and digital cameras. The packaging of the HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 models reflects Sony's efforts to minimise the use of plastic.
