Latin America. TelevisaUnivision introduced ViX, its large-scale streaming service that was created specifically for the Spanish-speaking world and will offer more than 50,000 hours of Spanish-language content in a wide variety of genres, including original series and movies, sports and live news, and current Televisa and Univision hits, plus access to an extensive video library of featured content and franchises from Televisa's video library.
The two-tier service will include ViX, a free ad-supported product (AVOD) that will launch on March 31 with 100 channels in an electronic programming guide and an experience with extensive video-on-demand (VOD) content; and an option under subscription model (SVOD), ViX+, with premium content that will include "ViX+ Originals" and exclusive football, scheduled for release in the second half of 2022. The beta version of the streaming app is available to select users in the United States and Mexico starting today.
"With TelevisaUnivision's content and capability integrated, we are perfectly capable of delivering a revolutionary streaming service to the nearly 600 million Spanish speakers around the world. It will be the first time that our global audience has a high-quality streaming experience that offers a huge variety of world-class entertainment, sports and news produced in Spanish and for Spanish speakers," said Wade Davis, Chief Executive Officer of TelevisaUnivision.
The new service will be launched in the United States, Mexico and most Latin American countries, and will be available on major platforms and on the vix.com portal. The company's current streaming options, PrendeTV, Blim TV and the previous version of VIX (AVOD), acquired in 2021, will be incorporated into the new ViX platform in the coming months, ensuring an uninterrupted viewing experience for users.
Over the course of the past year, TelevisaUnivision hired expert streaming executives from established global services to work on the development and launch of ViX, including Rafael Urbina, Executive Vice President and General Manager of ViX; Rodrigo Mazón, Executive Vice President and General Manager of ViX+; Michael Cerdá, Executive Vice President of Product & Engineering; Cameron Carr, Executive Vice President of Data & Insights; Adam Waltuch, Senior Vice President of Streaming Partnerships; and Roger Solé, Chief Marketing Officer of ViX.
