Brazil. RBS TV, one of Rede Globo's oldest subsidiaries and the main network presence of the RBS Group in southern Brazil, has chosen Pebble's customized solutions for management, playout and automation that will help it restructure and centralize its operations.
RBS plans to increase efficiency across its organization by consolidating standalone stations into central transmission clusters, optimizing and automating its operations with Pebble solutions. This will help them achieve their main goal: to reduce the repetitive tasks of operators and transfer manual and overly laborious activities to automated and safe operations.
Pebble has continued its growth in the region by providing RBS with a fully redundant Playout in a Box solution, which also includes branding, loudness processing and remote operation. Hybrid centralized transmission from the cluster and remote transmission from its headquarters and network, allow RBS to consolidate operations and maintain a distinctive presence in important regional markets with local news and programs. The result is a simplified and streamlined operation that reduces infrastructure, enables the redeployment of personnel to more creative functions, and controls costs with safe and reliable operation.
In a competitive selection process, RBS evaluated several commercially available solutions before choosing Pebble's solution that demonstrated the ability to cope with the technical complexities of the project while remaining cost-effective and tailored to their specific needs.
"We were impressed by the flexibility of the system and its software-defined, COTS-based approach, which meant we could use integrated, locally sourced hardware," says Carlos Fini, CTO of RBS TV. "Pebble has an easy-to-use interface widely adopted in Brazil, by Globo among others, that allows for rapid changes on air and offers efficient media planning and management. Videodata's highly skilled and experienced local support and broad installed base make it the obvious choice in this market."
São Paulo-based system integrator Videodata has integrated all hardware locally, with local support. "We are delighted to have delivered a complete installation of Pebble Automation and Integrated Channel to RBS TV," said Rosalvo Carvalho, CEO of Videodata. "What made this facility unique were Pebble's specific workflows to meet its requirements, including automatic metadata import and media transfers, rapid system responses to adapt to last-minute changes for live TV, Time Shift/Time Delay for extended sporting events, and solutions for remote network activation. Seeing them air successfully recently was the result of fantastic collaborative work between us and Pebble and, of course, the dedicated broadcast teams we had the pleasure of working with at RBS TV."
David Kicks, Vice President of Sales at Pebble said, "This is a complex use case that demonstrates the increasing capability of Pebble's software-defined solution and it has been a pleasure to work with Videodata and RBS TV to get it up and running smoothly. Brazil is a key market for us in the Americas and we look forward to continuing to build on the success we are having there, as we continue to drive the development and capabilities of our solutions to meet new broadcaster requirements."
