Mexico. The Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, created the Technical Committee on the deployment of 5G in Mexico, as a technical support body to the Institute of a consultative and non-binding nature, whose objective will be to generate contributions that promote the development and deployment of 5G in the country.
Given the importance that the public telecommunications service represents in the development of the country and the impact that 5G will have on the digital transformation, this mechanism will allow interaction between the Institute, industry, academia, public entities and any other interested person, to expose the needs, strategies, prospective and studies of current and future 5G.
To this end, six working groups will initially be implemented that will specialize in the following areas:
- Timely allocation of spectrum for 5G.
- Deployment and availability of infrastructure for 5G.
- Applications and services linked to 5G (use cases and technological innovation)
- Regulatory aspects for 5G.
- Cybersecurity.
- Experimentation and testing with 5G.
To establish and regulate the constitution, organization and operation of this technical body, 34 rules were outlined organized in five Chapters that contemplate the following topics:
Chapter I: General provisions, includes the object and definitions applicable to the normative instrument, in order to clarify the content and scope of the formation of the Committee.
Chapter II: Of the establishment and operation of the Committee, it determines the nature, the attributions and the integration of the Committee. In the same way, it provides for the procedure to be observed for the development of its sessions and the interaction with the Industry, the Academy, the Public Entities and, if applicable, any person interested in intervening in the affairs of the same.
Chapter III: Of the attributions of the persons the members of the Committee, indicates the attributions conferred on the Presidency of the Committee, the Technical Secretariat, the Coordinations and the members of the Committee, as entities that constitute the structure of said technical body.
Chapter IV: Of the working groups and their operation, it provides that the Committee shall implement six Working Groups that shall carry out their activities in accordance with the work program proposed by the Technical Secretariat.
