Peru. 27 radio companies, duly authorized to provide the sound broadcasting service in modulated frequency, would have been affected with interference in the areas of Lima and East Lima, due to the illegal use of "pirate" broadcasting signals, which operated without the corresponding authorization.
"We have identified 27 legally authorized radio stations that would have been harmed by other illegal radios that used the radio spectrum without the authorization of the MTC, committing the alleged crime of aggravated theft of the radio spectrum. This generated interference in the signals of the radio companies that meet all the requirements necessary to provide the broadcasting service, "said the general director of Communications Inspections and Sanctions, Miguel Ontiveros.
These illegal radio stations have violated copyright, failed to comply with current regulations, carried out acts of unfair competition against formal radios and evaded payments of contributions to the MTC and taxes to the State.
The MTC has dealt a new blow to "pirate" radios. An irradiating broadcasting system was intervened at the top of Cerro Villa Hermosa, in the El Agustino district, which transmitted on the frequency 100.5 MHz, under the name of Radio Máster, proceeding to seize the telecommunications equipment that was used by this illegal station.
"In this case, the power cable was tracked to identify the property, located in the Villa Hermosa human settlement, where the study used to carry out the transmissions was found. With the intervention of the PNP, the telecommunications equipment was confiscated in the face of the flagrante delicto of the commission of the alleged crime of aggravated theft of the radio spectrum," said Ontiveros.
Also, at the top of The San Gerónimo hill, in San Juan de Lurigancho, a transmitter, a dipole spire antenna and a yagui antenna were seized, which were used to transmit illegally, through the frequency 99.3 MHz, with the denomination of Radio Huascarán.
Between April and August of this year, the Directorate of Sanctions in Communications of the MTC managed to seize 370 illegal broadcasting equipment, which includes: antennas, consoles, transmitters, audio and video modulators, among other telecommunications devices, which were used by "pirate" radios.
