It ends a year in which the economic situation of the countries of Latin America generated what could be called a "perfect storm", which directly impacted the projects of the broadcast industry, with postponements, modifications and, in the most extreme case, cancellations of projects.
It closes 2015 with a strong devaluation of Latin currencies against the dollar, which in the case of Colombia and Brazil exceeds 30% compared to the beginning of the year, in Chile the currency has been depressed by about 15% and in Mexico it reaches 11%, to mention just a few examples. To this panorama is added that the Brazilian economy, the largest in the region, entered into recession.
If you take into account that most of the products of the broadcast industry used in Latin America are imported, you can understand the magnitude of the impact that this devaluation brought to everyone, both manufacturers, distributors, integrators and even the end user, who saw how their budgets fell short. And the forecasts are not encouraging, because economists and analysts estimate that we will have a high dollar for a few more years.
And how to deal with this situation? Creativity, that has been the key to the distributors and integrators with whom I have had the opportunity to speak. Creativity for the proposals to the clients, different options according to their needs, financing, optimal service with added value and the support of the factories, have been some of the strategies to be able to have acceptable numbers at the end of the year.
The truth is that the technology needs of customers continue and there is a new regional economic landscape to which we must adapt. I look forward to your feedback on the industry in [email protected]
