I know that much has been said about DTT, as well as what we will see at NAB 2011 (and in this edition we present some of this year's releases), so this editorial will be dedicated to a topic that catches my attention and that I would like to understand even more from the hand of you, the professionals of this industry: Internet television, either through IPTV, streaming, OTT or Web-TV.
When the Television changed from black and white to color my parents were surprised, (I was touched in color, worth the clarification) was a big step, then came the remote control, later the plasma, LCD, LED, now the DTT, but within this evolution that has taken a little more than 30 years there is the Internet, a Network that has revolutionized the world, not only because of the way in which we communicate, the conception of time and space, but because it is monopolizing sectors and agglomerating in a single space press, radio, television, communities, social networks, libraries, companies, etc.
A few months ago the Sony Entertainment Television channel began to announce that the series it broadcasts could be seen directly on its website and not only the last season, but all the seasons of Desperate Housewifes, Grey's Anatomy, etc. Also Mundo Fox allows you to watch some of its series on www. mundofox.com/la
Although there is no shortage of pirates, who transmit all these series on their pages such as bravotv.com, cuevana.tv and seriesyonkis.com
It is also worth mentioning Comcast's new announcement, XfinityTV.com/latinoTV, an Internet portal for its Hispanic subscribers to access for free more than 500 movies, music videos and shows from its television and film partners such as Univision, Cine Mexicano, Gran Cine, Caracol TV, Discovery Familia, ¡Sorpresa!, Tr3s, and select content from HBO Latino and Starz.
Talking to an industry expert he explained to me that IPTV is an important issue for us, as it provides the possibility to distribute content to the end user and also to deliver it internally on a channel before having the final product.
Additionally, he told me that OTT (Over The Top) services, which use the networks of others to offer services such as Xfinity, are the future but at the same time a great threat, because the time will come when it will not matter the owner of the infrastructure but who has the content.
I only question myself before the new technologies, which are evolving faster and faster, and I ask myself: what will we end up in? Will I have to watch TV every day on my cell phone screen or on my pc?...
You, who are immersed in the day to day of the industry know better than I do what is coming and how we will face it and that is why I would like you to share your opinions with me by writing to me [email protected].
See you at NAB!
