The XL2 replaces one of the most successful and emblematic products in the history of Canon, the XL1S. When producers record 24p with 2:3 reduction feature, a video is achieved with the look and feel of a movie. The 24p frame rate used in conjunction with a curve Cinema range adjustment on the XL2, produces images that have characteristics of shades similar to those of the films. This mode is used when the finished video will be presented on television, while 24p, with a reduction from 2:3:3:2, is used when the video will be transferred to film (2:3:3:2 reduction allows editing software extract true boxes of 24 shots per second).
