IBC 2006: the world of content

One of the most important events in the industry arrives this year with an exhibition area 10% larger than last year; and with an academic program that includes HDTV, television for mobile devices and D-Cinema, among others.

IBC, probably one of the most important annual events in the industry, renews this year its promise to offer visitors the best space to update and interact with the latest technologies for the creation, management and delivery of content to the world of entertainment.

To this end, among other actions, it increased its exhibition area by 10%, in relation to last year. On this occasion, about 1000 exhibitors, distributed in 750 stands, will be present, including the main manufacturers and distributors of the industry.

This expansion also led to the relocation of some attractions to spaces other than their traditional location. This is the case of the popular "Training Zone", which moved to hall 8 and completely ceded its area in hall 7 to post-production exhibitors. Another of the modifications is the "Mobile Zone", which will occupy twice the area of the last version and will offer more space to attendees for meetings and seminars.

All these changes seek to give more comfort to the nearly 40,000 people from 140 countries, expected this year.

As for the academic program, as always, it is loaded with opportunities for learning and debate. Five items, which are on the agenda, will occupy the main agenda:

  • Multimedia at home, IPTV and beyond: the traditional concept of broadcaster is changing and one of the trends generating this change is television over IP. During this session, its possibilities and challenges, both technological and business, will be addressed.
  • HDTV: High definition is here. Now it's just a matter of implementing it. This conference will focus on the time, costs and impact of this transition.
  • Moving media: the distribution of content through mobile devices such as cell phones, PDAs and others, is the topic of the moment. What contents are correct?, should this service provide telcos or broacasters?, are some of the questions that will be resolved in this session.
  • Content production: the emergence of new forms of content distribution raises concerns about its production: should it be done simultaneously or specifically for each one?, how will HD affect this production?, how to handle the issue of property rights in this context?
  • D-Cinema: the firm take-off of digital cinema and the demonstration of its possibilities, have created a climate of expectation about what more it can offer. This session will look at your opportunities and challenges, and what the future brings to meet them.

In addition, special sessions have been scheduled with industry professionals, who will tour the fair and highlight the solutions and services that have most caught their attention in "What caught my eye", which will help as a guide to visitors in the vast territory that is this event. And in "Beyond the cutting edge" the best products of the moment for television and film will be reviewed, and some ideas about what is coming will be ventured.

IBC belongs to six partners, representing both visitors and exhibitors. The main executives and committees in control of the convention come from these organizations, which ensures that both see their expectations met. People who register before August 12 will have free access to the exhibition.
