The governments of Brazil and Japan signed on April 13 a memorandum of cooperation for the implementation of a Brazilian television system digital, based on the Japanese standard ISDB-T.
The highlights of the According to a statement from the Brazilian Presidency, the agreement is the following:
- Japan will support the participation of Brazilian institutions in the work of standardization relative to the diversification of CONTENT OF THE ISDB-T standard, including participation of a Brazilian representative as a member of the Committee standardization of the ARIB Consortium (organization Japanese standardization).
- Brazil and Japan to cooperate for the introduction of technological innovations developed by Brazil in the ISDB-T standard.
- A organization of specialists from the two countries or a interlocutor of cooperation services for technology transfer from the ISDB-T standard.
- Brazil will pay for all Royalties to the Japanese government for the use of isDB-T technology patents.
The memorandum, signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Celso Amorim, and the Minister of Foreign Business of Japan, Mr. Taro Aso, goes beyond the issue of the digital television standard and covers issues of cooperation for the development of an industry electronics in Brazil.
