Transmission remote control

The growing need to control performance in remote locations has resulted in the development of systems and applications that offer specific solutions for remote monitoring of transmission equipment.

The Canadian company im3 Networks, offers the MAC system. It is a device that offers up to 32 analog inputs, 64 digital inputs and 16 audio inputs for monitoring. You can activate up to 64 retransmitters manually or automatically. It also provides a maximum of 16 RS-232 ports for easy communication with other equipment at the transmission site and can be controlled locally with the help of a personal computer since it is possible to access the system through a modem, telephone (using DTMF tones) or via a serial port.

It comes from the factory with the following resources:

  • Software
  • internal loaded inside the unit.
  • Software Kit on 3 1/2" disks
  • Conversion utility for the configuration of the units.
  • Installation CD for MacComm. Windows-based configuration software.

It has two-level alarm reporting options, any of them operates in the form of telephone (voice), modem (data), fax, locator (voice, digital or alphanumeric) or storing a report. Inside a box that occupies 2 support units has programming options for each input and can be controlled locally by a personal laptop with maccomm software delivered together with the system or from any terminal emulation software.

It has additional levels of security for system supervisors. Easy setup and operation and includes the retransmitters inside the unit. It works with the sensors of any manufacturer and allows, through virtual inputs, to establish conditional actions.

MacNet

This company also offers a software solution that runs on Windows 95 or 98 platforms for the remote administration of monitoring and control systems of extensive transmission networks. Based on personal computers, this system can be used by channel operators to collect and manage alarm calls sent by MiniMac units and Davicom Mac systems (now im3 networks).

This software can receive and store alarm calls, system status reports and historical records of remote sites and present the information in an easy-to-read graphical format. It has the ability to manage any number of sites, limited only by hard disk space and to maintain a database of each of them, compatible with ACCESS 97, which also makes it possible to generate graphs of the trends of the parameters of the computer. There you can make requests for information about the number of failures that a station has presented during a given period of time and the duration of these failures. In addition to this, a backup copy of the database is automatically generated by MacNet.

Its interface presents a map of the region that can be adapted according to the network. All menus can be activated by means of a mouse. Each place is identified with a name and an ID code and is positioned under latitude and longitude coordinates. These sites can be organized by region or by priority levels to ensure that the operator can easily see and identify areas or places that present problems.

MacNet has been developed to allow operators of large networks to make better decisions and much faster when something is not working properly. The functions offered by this application allow you to identify and correct, quickly and efficiently, the anomaly situations that occur in each place individually, with the consequent saving of money and time.

MacNet's design makes the operation of networks with multiple locations simple even if it does not involve specialized technical operators because the information offered by the system will allow them to understand the situation with the help of the tools available for that purpose. This allows them to solve simple problems and contact qualified personnel only when the situation demands a high level of experience.
