In my view there is a wide gap called the Digital Divide. This means that there are developed countries in the technological aspect that have access to the digital world under excellent conditions, and these advantages result in greater speed of access to more and better information, which allows them to achieve better productivity rates. On the contrary, in countries that are in the process of technological development there are serious difficulties that make the size of this gap much larger.
It is necessary to assume the responsibility of bringing access to the internet with state-of-the-art technological resources to the latter countries. Low-speed dial-up or telephone modem access technology should disappear in no time. It is the natural trend because the contents that are now on the network are increasingly rich in information, have added values such as audio, video and interactivity functions. A whole series of features that increase the size of digital files. In order to access this information, it is necessary that there are new pipelines that allow the passage of all content designed for a wider network, that is, for a bandwidth with greater capacity.
It is in this aspect that cable television systems come to play a very important role as providers of high-speed access service through Cable Modem technology, considered as the one that can offer the best results in terms of efficiency and speed. However, other alternatives could be, on the one hand, DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) technology or digital satellite transmission technology.
The implementation of this technology requires large investments that must be assumed by the cable operators in each country and by the governments themselves, who must worry about providing the means and resources so that private investment can be possible. This can be achieved through different alternatives that support the financing of these projects, such as, for example, new tax policies for cable operators to exempt them. In particular, those taxes generated by the import of signals to encourage, in this way, investment in systems based on Cable Modem technology, which make it possible to build broadband networks with good quality of access.
The capacity of consumers and the purchasing power of users in these markets must not be forgotten and for this purpose policies must be created that encourage both the supply of these new services and the demand itself. Digital technology is a field that presents changes very quickly and requires organizations that can respond to the speed of technological evolution to avoid the growth of the gap between the countries that make up each of the parts of the digital division.
